What can I say about this? How can you not love a woman wearing a sheer shirt while remaining classy, elegant and professional.

I get a lot of emails from readers asking for tips when it comes to suiting. Or, more directly, how to make stylish, modern choices in day-to-day businesswear. After some thought, I think the best way to answer this is with a series of posts about the "dos" and "don'ts" of modern, stylish workplace attire.

Style is personal and as long as you work in an industry that allows some personal expression, here's where I like to begin:
- Be bold with your shirt and tie combos. Don’t be afraid to incorporate bright color into what you wear underneath your suit.
- Pocket squares are one of the most overlooked necessities. They can change the entire look of a suit. Pick one that plays off of the colors in your shirt or tie. If you feel daring, add a second pocket square to a suit with an additional pocket. (Tip: Don't buy a tie and pocket square in a matching set!)
- Add a bit of color to your sock selection.
- Time for a new hairstyle? Go for the Mad Men, Don Draper side part.
- Make a statement in the conference room with the addition of a nice watch.
- Add a briefcase to your wardrobe for a more professional look.
- Confidence is key. Your suit should demand the same amount of respect as you do
BONUS: Remember that FIT is king. If the suit doesn't fit properly, it won't look good. Develop a relationship with a good tailor and take all of your new suits to them.
What do you guys think? Anything to add?
Cheers,
-JM

Guess Who's Back!
First, let me thank all of my readers for sticking with me. We've been in the process of moving into new Manselle Media offices (massive renovation in Virginia's City Center district, pics coming soon). But now that things are settled, I'll be back to blogging.
What better way to jump back into things than with a post about Nucky Thompson's unexpected impact on Fashion Week? Nucky (played by one of my favorite actors, Steve Buscemi) is a character on HBO's Martin Scorsese-produced flagship "Boardwalk Empire." The show is about the men that ran Atlantic City in the 1920's and its second season premiered a couple of weeks ago. It's all money, power, respect, crime and great pre-depression era suits.

Seems like at least once a month, I find myself mesmerized by TheSartorialist.com. In case you have somehow been oblivious to this site, it's Scott Schuman's photo journalistic fashion blog. Basically, it's endless photos of nameless, interesting people with interesting style.

I frequently get questions from readers about great black designers. So, as I continue my "Style Icons" series, I thought it only fit to profile Mr. Ozwald Boateng, one of the current kings of London's Savile Row.
