Last Sunday, I watching HBO's Entourage (which, by the way, is finally back on track after a few lack luster seasons) and I was reminded of how damn stylish this show is. Vince Chase and company have really found a way to merge New York urbanwear and LA fashion without looking like posers. But, it is Jeremy Piven's super agent character Ari Gold that really hits the mark every episode.
I got to thinking, Ari Gold has got to be one of the best dressed characters on TV. If he is not the best dressed, he certainly gets his hands on some of the best suits. So, I decided to put together a list: my picks for the top three best dressed men on TV (suits edition). 3rd Place: Barney Stinson - How I Met Your Mother. Probably the safest of my three choices, Barney Stinson. He's the womanizing, rich and often philosophical breakout star of CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. The key to his look is a slim, tailored fit and color cordination. 2nd Place: Ari Gold - Entourage.
In opposition to Barney, is my boldest pick: Ari Gold. Ari Gold is the arrogant, loud super-agent turned entertainment mogul from Entourage. His look is about mixing patterns, bold colors and accessories. Vests, triangle folded pocket squares and great ties (full windsor knot) are all staples of his everyday style. When his tie loosens and jacket gets unbuttoned after a stressful day of taking over the world, the suit still manages to look cool. 1st Place: Neal Caffery - White Collar You might not be as familiar with Neal Caffery or White Collar (to be honest, I'm not sure how I first came across this show, but it's great). Here's the 10 second breakdown: Neal Caffery is a renown con artist and theif who has only been caught twice, both times by the same FBI agent. The FBI decides to use his expertise to catch more white collar criminals by giving him a conditional release with the clause that he wear an ankle bracelet monitor and work with the FBI agent that caught him. In his first day of release, he befriends Diahann Carroll's wealthy widow character June (side note: Diahann Carroll is somehow still sexy...). He lives in her guest house and wears her dapper husband's rat pack era threads. Neal's style is a sophisticated throw back to a time lost. To recreate the look, you need slim fit suits. If you cannot afford Gucci or Prada, H&M has a great collection of these. You will also need a healthy collection of skinny ties (half windsor knot), collar pins, skinny tie clips and a fedora or two.
PS. I can't leave without putting in an honorable mention for the entire cast of Mad Men.
