The New Comedy Central Logo
Tuesday, 11 January 2011 22:17

For the past week or so I have been fighting the urge to write this entry. I have been staring at this atrocious, cluster-***k, disaster of a logo every chance I get since Comedy Central unleashed it on the world. But, as I prepared to destroy the once great network and their in house buffoons, a funny thing happened... I started to kind of like this thing...kind of.

When I first saw this logo sneak it's way into the OnDemand menu on my Nexus digital entertainment unit, it slipped right past me (I probably thought the damn thing was a copyright symbol). Then, a day or two later, I saw it again and thought: "No way this is a permanent new logo. There's no way a company the size of Comedy Central would allow their logo to be such a joke." I guess the jokes on me.

To be fair, the font is great. It's bold and serious enough to be impactful, but still current and very web 2.0, which I guess was the point. It kind of reminds me of the Manselle Media (shameless plug) font or a bolder version of Futura. Also, the "turning things upside down and backwards" concept is not loss on me. So, what's the problem? Obviously, it's that silly © thing.

But, like I said, after seeing it for over a week now, I can acknowledge that it grows on you. I can't get behind this thing, but I should admit their last logo was never all that strong. I just wish they would have gone with something more brandable like CBS, MTV, A&E or even BET have done.

Cheers,
-JM
